Autumn Term Return to School!

1st September 2020 By sophiefoster

What a great start to the beginning of our Autumn Term. It has been great to see you all once again! All our children has been amazing! It has been so lovely to see their smiley, happy faces enjoying being back together again, listening to them chat with their friends, playing & having fun together! Thank you for all your help and hard work!

Colds, coughs and BACK TO SCHOOL
This is really difficult for parents, really hard for schools…and NHS 111 is overrun with calls to speak to doctors. Today the @rcpch issued some new up to date (and evidence based) guidance for parents and schools. It has been made into a simple flow chart to make it easier to understand. We hope it helps!

Here is a link to the government advice document too:

Coronavirus updates – free school meals voucher scheme

31st March 2020 By sophiefoster

Update on GOV.UK.

Voucher scheme launches for schools providing free school meals

Page summary
Weekly shopping vouchers worth £15 to spend at supermarkets while schools are closed due to coronavirus

Change made
First published.

Time updated
12:15am, 31 March 2020

Children eligible for free school meals will benefit from a national voucher scheme allowing them to continue to access meals whilst they stay at home.

Schools can now provide every eligible child with a weekly shopping voucher worth £15 to spend at supermarkets while schools are closed due to coronavirus.

Schools can continue to provide meals for collection or delivery themselves, but where this is not possible, the scheme will allow schools to provide vouchers to families electronically, or as a gift card for those without internet access.

The vouchers can be spent on food at a range of shops including Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Waitrose and M&S, with the Department working to get more shops to join the scheme as soon as possible.

Info for parents: Your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

Children who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals.

Your child may also get free school meals if you get any of these benefits and your child is both:

  • younger than the compulsory age for starting school
  • in full-time education

Au revoir!

20th March 2020 By sophiefoster

So tonight we closed our school gates, closed to all but a few of our children, for the last time in goodness knows how long!
This has been an unprecedented and incredibly challenging week. School staff have all worked tirelessly throughout the uncertainty, to ensure our children remained safe, calm & well cared for.
We unsure if our Year 6 children will return to our primary school but at least they have all had an amazing couple of days at Robinwood, memories made that’ll last a lifetime! Please know that whatever the future holds, you will always be part of our school family, welcomed with a smile & open arms!
This is an unusual, bizarre and upsetting time for everyone, but Witton School is an amazing place, made brilliant because of our children, parents & staff. We will continue to smile & carry on through this crisis, with staff putting their own health (& that of their families) at risk to care for the children of critical front-line workers and the vulnerable children in our school community.
This is a tremendous learning curve for us all but remember we are all in this together and when regular school days return (and they will eventually!) we will go from strength to strength in the knowledge that we are all part of one big happy family, part of a special, supportive fabulous community.
Take care of one another and please follow all government guidelines: If it is at all possible for children to be at home, then they should be. Remember, there is no point in closing schools unless we all practice social distancing. Stay safe, keep others safe, stay calm and enjoy some family time.
We hope to see you all soon x

Coronavirus Guidance

Whole School Closure 20th March 2020

Online Safety advice for parents and carers during COVID-19

Children of Key Workers/Vulnerable Children

Parental email sent 18.3.20

Parental Letter 16th March 2020

Symptoms of coronavirus

    • a cough
    • a high temperature
    • shortness of breath

But these symptoms do not necessarily mean you have the illness. The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu.

How coronavirus is spread

Because it’s a new illness, we do not know exactly how coronavirus spreads from person to person.Similar viruses are spread in cough droplets. It’s very unlikely it can be spread through things like packages or food.

How to avoid catching or spreading coronavirus

Do

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • always wash your hands when you get home or into work
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards
  • try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell

Don’t

  • do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

Congratulations to our Cross Country runners today! Despite the weather conditions, our children in years 3-6 put in a brilliant effort, racing around the course at Bishop Auckland College.
