Welcome to Class 2
Welcome to Class 2
There are 27 of us. Our teacher is Mrs Redfern. We have lots of help in our class with Mrs Cooper, Mrs Forsyth, Miss Jackson and Mrs Smith.
Our Learning View our Long Term Curriculum Plans and find out more about Our Curriculum on our website.
In our first term of the summer Class Two will be trying to answer the question ‘Why are some places special?’ This will focus on being a History Detective and looking for clues that tell us about the past. During our English lessons this term we will be writing recipes, science-based information texts and traditional tales. Our Mathematics sessions will focus on learning a whole range of skills, especially our times tables and number bonds and place value. This term will be finding out how to be safe online and search effectively. For Physical Education this term we will be focusing on Games, our throwing and catching skills and also some Yoga. We will be learning lots of new stretches, stances and balances. As part of our Science topic we will be finding out about the properties of materials.
Information for parents
Homework in Class Two is given out weekly. It always contains the children’s weekly spelling lists and a choice of a range of tasks linked with the curriculum. Due to the impacts of COVID 19 we will be using Seesaw to send out homework each week. Seesaw is an online learning journal system similar to Tapestry. Homework is given out each Thursday and is expected to be completed by the following Wednesday. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Redfern – email@example.com. Don’t forget that we are able to access Lexia at home too.
On a Thursday, at WASCLS we will have computers set up as a homework session for children who have difficulty accessing the internet at home.
Children are encouraged to read at home for 20 minutes every day. We will be continuing to use the Rising Stars Reading Planet online platform to assign reading books this term. Each book assigned to your child should be read twice and the comprehension questions (found on the last page) and reading quizzes must be completed before a new book is assigned. The children will also have lots of opportunities to read and enjoy books throughout the week at school and hopefully for pleasure at home.
As we are a healthy school, children are encouraged to eat at least 5 fruit or vegetables a day. We have a piece of fruit during playtime every day.
Timetabled P.E. sessions will be on Tuesday and Friday.
Children will need to come to school on these days in their PE kits as we will not be able to change in school. Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child’s name. We encourage children to practise getting dressed at home independently to help them get changed quickly in school!
PE kits consist of:
· a plain white t-shirt,
· red shorts (can be worn under tracksuit bottoms if required)
· Plain black, blue or grey track suit bottoms
· Red sweatshirt for outdoor sessions
· Trainers that the children can fasten themselves
· Warm rainproof coat – as we will be outside as much as possible. Long hair must be tied up and earrings must not be worn.
Many children misplaced items of uniform last year so please could parents make sure that all of your child’s clothing is clearly labelled so that it can be returned easily.
