Witton-le-Wear Primary School celebrated after it underwent an “Outstanding” Ofsted inspection during April 2013.
We continue to strive to give our children the best educational experiences, both academically and socially, by being part of our big family school ethos and this is still as relevant in 2020 as it was at the point of our last inspection in 2013.

Successes & Awards
Harvest Festival Food Bank collections were hugely successful, with Mrs Redfern delivering 35 bags to the Crook Food Bank.
Salvation Army Food Bank received 85 selection boxes thanks to the generosity of our Witton-le-Wear community!
RED NOSE DAY Contribution Certificate.
BOOK FAIR Fundraising Certificate
We have a number of different awards in school which we use to celebrate the successes of our fantastic pupils!
Star of the Week
A special award is presented to one child from each year group every week in our “Star of the Week Assembly”. The trophy and certificate are presented for a wide range of achievements including progress and attainment (in any subject), positive attitude, manners, helpfulness and care towards others.
Attendance Awards
The school continues to place a high importance on attendance as this is closely linked to how well children perform at school. Attendance is closely monitored on a weekly and termly basis and we use a variety of awards to celebrate good attendance. Children who have managed to achieve a completely unblemished attendance record for a half term are rewarded in a special assembly. Children are presented with a certificate and a small stationery gift which is printed with the school logo. These have been very popular and there is now a certain amount of competition amongst the children for collecting them!
A trophy is also awarded on a weekly basis to the class which has the best percentage attendance.
Table of the Week
Each week our Lunchtime Supervisors decide which table in our dinner hall have been the most: working well together, being well-behaved, politely spoken and the tidiest. These children receive the special Table of the Week trophy and coveted juice cups and special lunchtime drink!
Golden Broom Award
Our lovely caretaker Mrs Docherty awards her trophy once a week for the classroom which has been the tidiest. The child in that class who has been the most helpful in tidying collects the trophy on behalf of their class.
Dinner Ladies Award
Every Friday lunchtime we have fun! The lunchtime supervisors have been watching closely all week to see who has been the most well-behaved, kindest, most well-mannered and has eaten all their lunch. They then choose this child to receive our Dinner Ladies Trophy.
Other Awards
Festivals
As members of the “Wear Valley Sports Partnership” our children enter into many sporting festivals and have the opportunity to compete and have fun with other children from local primaries. Many events are held at our local secondary schools, which helps to familiarise the school to those children who will eventually attend. All children participating receive certificates and are occasionally entered into further competitions. Specialist sports coaches from the partnership frequently visit the primary schools and offer their expertise in preparation for different sports festivals. All the children enjoy taking part regardless of sporting ability!
Annual Village Vegetable & Flower Show
In September of each year our village runs a Fruit & Vegetable Show. As part of this event our children take part in arranged competitions with given themes based around this show. Winning prizes are awarded for both infant and junior end of the school. This provides a lovely link between the school and our local village community.
